Katie Shermerhorn
About Katie
Katie has been practicing counselling and therapy since 2012. She began her career in social services, where she did community outreach, crisis work and individual counselling and psychotherapy for people struggling with mental health and addictions issues.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and has also completed a Certificate in Addictions as a post-grad from Laurier University. She attended Yorkville University for her Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. She has been trained to deliver many different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Skills, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Brainspotting and EMDR for trauma/PTSD.
She has a keen interest in working with First Nations clients and has completed many trainings specific to holistic, culturally-informed treatment. This includes addictions treatment for both substance use and behavioural addiction (video games, pornography, etc.)
Katie is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Association Of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).
